Names, Names, Names...

Ever since I have known him and according to his mum for years and years the Mr. has this funny little habit of making up silly names for people and pets. Even his mum's dog whose real name is Mark, gets called all sorts of names like Mii-ken and Maa-ken depending on the Mr's mood. He does the same to me and although most of the time he calls me Nico, he also calls me a stream of other names such as mee-mee, min-min, mii-ko, pii-ko, and the list goes on. I used to find it amusing, but these days I will answer to anything and the endless number of new names never really surprises me. Until yesterday, when from the word go and all day long he was calling me "DAISY"!!!????? I have no idea where he got it from, but even when we went to have dinner with his mum last night he was calling me "Daisy" or "Daisy-chan" in front of her. She is so used to it she didnt bat an eyelid, which I also thought was hilarious!
Speaking of names, I dont think I have ever written about what I call the Mr. On my blog he has always been known as Nemo right from the first date, and then when we got married he was promoted to Mr. Nemo or the Mr. But IRL and ever since we first started dating I have always called him Sparky. This is a nickname I gave him cos he is an electronic engineer, and it is somewhat of an Australian tradition to give your people a nickname that ends with the sound "eee" Like Timmy, Mattie, Johnny, or Jimmy! At the start it was just my nickname to call him when it was the two of us, but after a while my family and close friends clued on and started calling him Sparky too. Even when I talk to the Mr. in front of his mum now, I call him Sparky to his face, but when I talk about him to his mum I always call him "Masaaki-san".
I considered changing his name on the blog to Sparky, but after so many years of being Nemo on here, I decided against it.
In Japanese when I talk about him to others I call him my Danna-san or if it is a stranger like the delivery guy or postman or whatever he is Shujin. When I am goofing around I someimes call him Goshujin-sama... As in Goshujin-sama okaerinasaimase! But most of the time, he is just my Sparky. I wonder what everyone else calls their Mr. to their face, and in public, with friends, and to strangers???? And I wonder for how much longer I am gonna be getting "Daisy"????

Hi er...Nooh? Daisy? That is totally hilarious. I grew up with a father who was always making up names for us so I know how you feel. Mooshy Moo was a favourite of his. I think Daisy is a lovely nick name. Much better than Plumpychan, which K temporarily named me after he saw the movie "Love Actually" and took a liking to it. I was instructed to call him by his proper name which is Koichi in front of other people but at home is Kouchan, my sister calls him this too because I do. He calls me Jaynesama, and so he should! We visited his family for the first or second time and I let Kouchan slip in front of his father who though it was great and had a big smile on his face. K also gives names to things, and even named a friend's unborn child for her (Klaus - we were living in Germany), luckily my friend though it was hilarious. Our car is called Jose Fernando....
Have you seen Outrageous Fortune? It's a totally hilarious NZ drama about a family of criminals and one of the characters is this really tripped out electrician called "Sparky", who is also a pyromaniac. You should definitely watch this if you get a chance (I think it was telly in Oz too), the name Sparky just made me think of it.

Hiya, ShufuinJapan, thanks for your comment. I laughed so hard about Sparky the pyromanic! what a classic!!! I have never heard of Outrageous Forture, but now I so want to see it! That is cute how you are Jayne-sama and he is Kou-chan. So I am guessing your hubby speaks pretty good English then?

lol! I do like the name Daisy tho'! We live in a small town in inaka so everyone knows my DH so I can usually refer to him by his name and vice-versa.We did have a host of nicknames for each other in the early days(we have been together nearly 17 years and married for 12)but they just seemed to disapear.Shame really!

Aww Sparky and Daisy, they could so be new characters in a very cute anime!
That's funny about the Aussie-ism of names, some of my friends from home call me 'Corzy' or 'Corinney.'
I call Ryota 'Ryo-chan,' pretty boring! He calls me 'Honey-chan' in private but has to keep his tough guy image in public.

Daisy and Sparky! hahaha! That'S soooo cute! We're pretty boring in the name-calling dept. I'm just Jo in private and Joanne-san in public. I call him Jun when I'm in neutral, Jun-chan when I need something and 'That Japanese Man!' when I'm mad!

Hi Daisy! "giggles" This was absolutely hilarious Nooh! I was shamed for years since my pops called me "stinker" (he used to refer to my mom as Tinker since forever and all her friends call her tinker). Growing up I was "Stinker" by my father and my siblings called me "Sissy" cause they could not pronounce my first name...

"Madison" became "Honey-Chan", or "hon-chan", Chloe became "Kuro Chan" -- or "Damn it"..

I call the Mr. Kaz Chan, or Kaz or Kazu, he gets upset when I call him by his first name all spelled out and thinks "that sounds so cold"! He says..

For years he called me ゔぇろ or just "honey-chan" but my first name in Japanese sounds like "lick" or "spit"!

In public I call him Kazu and he calls me "honey-chan", he has never called me by name.. haha

Marianne, you should try calling your DH one of those pet names from your early days, and see how he reacts???!!! I hope that I am not "Daisy" in 12 years time!!!

'Corzy'!!! Love it! It is soooo Aussie! I can just hear it in my head! "Oi, Corzy, pass me dat stubby wud ya!" Where are you originally from in Oz, girl!!???

Jo, that is so hilarious about 'That Japanese Man!'ROFLMAO!!! I love it! Sometimes we call eachother GJ and GB around the house. These stand for Ganko-jiji and Ganko-baba!!! Of course, we are just paying out on eachother...

Girl-J, Stinker is a horendous name! You poor luv! I think it is sweet how some of you girls get honey-chan!!! Having said that thou I cant imagine being called that or darling.. I call Sparky "baby" sometimes, but more often than not he is just Sparky.
I laughed at Mr. Kazu Chan too! How cute!!!! Poor little Chloe, getting "Damn it"!! Maybe your Mr. Kazu-chan will be in the dog house if he adopts the other sister, huh!!! I wish I could have her!!!

BTW, looks like "Daisy" might be here to stay... was still getting it this morning... <<<..>>>>

Ever since Yasu has known me he's called me "Kelko". I don't know why.

I usually call him "pickle" or "my little pickle" or "my little love". I don't know why either, but he's too cute. :)

I love the name Daisy, that was my grandma's name!

My friends call Yasu "yasu-eee" because they think Yasu is a funny name. They don't realise that when they say Yasuee it sounds like "yasui" as in cheap!! haha
