Introducing Bubbles....

Bubbles was my first car. I bought her when I was in undergrad uni in Brisbane. She was born the same year as me; 1974. A semi-automatic Honda Civic, known as the HONDAMATIC! Sounds like something out of the movie Grease, dont you think!!? Most of the time she purred pretty well. On occassion she was smokin' and once she became unstoppable... literally! The key got stuck in the ignition and I couldnt turn her off!!! She had her issues, but my gosh did I love her!!! Everyone who knew me, knew Bubbles, and knew her by name! She was Bubbles to my family and friends. A close girlfriend of mine, even adopted Bubbles for a year while I was on exchange in Japan. She was glad to send her back on my return though, cos I think the cops pulled her over and fined her for excessive exhaust fumes!!! Bubbles was obviously having a bad day, cause she rarely did that with me! Sadly, in the end I traded her in when I started my masters degree, which broke my heart. I wonder if she is still around... I like to think that she found a great home with someone who adores her and likes to retore old cars as their hobby... I found these photos while decluttering some papers in a drawer last night. I wanted to post them on here for old times sake.

omg - how freaky! I had the exact same car (1974) in white. she got me to and from uq every (well. most) days for 4 years. mine even started smoking too one night on the way home at a traffic light and I caused a huge traffic jam along Sir Fred Schonel Drive. te-he.

fwiw,my car was nameless, but had a toy cow in the back window.
wow.

My first car was a 1973 mini- oh how I loved that car (although not when it rained, since it leaked!)

My father did it up for me when I was about 15 so it is the car I also learnt to drive in.

Oh memories!

Oh my gosh, Nooh you and I are near the same age, and my very first car was a Datsun 240z, and (used) it was great at first, my father warned me but I wanted to be COOL...

It was a manual and the shift was on the brink.. always so I had to pop it into 2nd, push it, jump in and go ..... OH my gosh! Then the air-con went, then the stereo went so I would bring my boom box with me...

It was 1985 and I was in high school.

I loved reading about your first car!! It sounds like it was a great little car!

My first car was a Daihatsu charade and was a great!! I loved it so much. Unfortunately I never ended up with a photo of it... I wish I had because I regret not having at least one photo of her!

Oh, that's sad you dont have a photo Nay. Maybe you can google it to see if you can find a lookalike??? I sometimes go hunting for Bubbles lookalikes, just to see if there are many still on the roads and look at the condition. I guess I must be obsessed with Bubbles. I sure did love her. My hubby pays out on me when he sees me looking at her picture sometimes, but I know he secretly is happy that I share his love of cars. Little does he know, I only have eyes for one!!! HAHAHAH!

That's a great story about your first car. I wish I could look back on my first car without cringing...I forget the make, I think it was a honda and it was very small and it was pink with grey patches where the rust had been fixed with bog. So my friends christened it Mr Blobby. It had holes in the floor, so there was always a massive puddle on the passenger's side. Why did I buy this car? I have no idea, possibly the worst money I ever spent and we were thankfully parted from each other after a few months when the mechanic was going to charge me an arm and a leg to get it warranted. But I have to say my next car (not bought until about 3 years later)was a MASSIVE step upwards and I did appreciate it soo much more after having Mr Blobby.

ShufuinJapan, thanks for sharing your story about Mr. Blobby! What a classic name!!! If it was a honda and very small, there is a chance that it could be a sibling of Bubbles as well!!!

I remember Bubbles with very fond memories.

I also had a white Honda Civic 1982 as my first car. It was a wonderful car. It would go and go and go. I also have memories of it smoking up while drive over the Gateway bridge in Brisbane.
